The University of St. Francis Joliet is a university with a liberal arts focus. All of the programs it offers include some liberal arts and general education courses that teach students how to think in different ways and to look at subjects from multiple perspectives. Some of its undergrad degree programs have multiple tracks available such as the art and design program, which offers tracks in studio art, graphic design and photography. The political science program offers tracks in American politics, public policy, and general political science for those who want to attend law schools. Other majors for undergrads include biology, music, music performance, marketing, industrial and organizational psychology, finance and history.
Graduate students will also find programs with various tracks available. The University of St. Francis Joliet Master of Business Administration (MBA) program has tracks in business analytics, finance, accounting, supply chain management, human resources management, health administration, and training and development. Students in the middle education level program can follow tracks in general science, math, social science or language arts and get their teaching licenses. Some of the other graduate programs provide students with training in social work, nursing administration or education, management and various areas of education.
Online students can apply to an adult completion program or a graduate degree program. The university’s adult completion programs help students finish the degrees they already started and will accept transfer credits from other colleges. Students can study business management and choose from concentrations in entrepreneurship, managing human resources, marketing, management and leadership or transportation, and logistics management. The University of St. Francis Joliet is a private university in Illinois more commonly known as the University of St. Francis or St. Francis. Founded in 1920, the university has an affiliation with the Roman Catholic Church and the Congregation of the Third Order of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate. Though the university originally had a large number of Catholic students, some of its students today come from other denominations. St. Francis has a campus in Joliet that is roughly 45 minutes away from Chicago. Some of its students live in the big city and commute to their classes, but other students live in Joliet and commute to Chicago for their internships and co-ops.
One unique feature of the university’s campus is that it functions as a neighborhood. Students will find access to everything they need on the campus or within walking distance. More than 1,200 undergrads and more than 300 graduate students enroll in the traditional programs offered by the university. It also has an enrollment of more than 2,100 nontraditional students. Those students include adult learners and graduate students working on their degrees. St. Francis has a higher enrollment of female students than male students, with more than 60% of its student body consisting of women.
The University of St. Francis Joliet Accreditation Details
St. Francis has approval from the Illinois Department of Education and accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). HLC accreditation is what allows students to apply for the funding they need and get financial aid, but it’s also what lets them transfer their credits to a St. Francis program and from one of those programs. Its business, physical assisting, education, nursing, sports management, social work, and other programs also have accreditation.
The University of St. Francis Joliet Application Requirements
Visit Days are events designed by the university for undergrads who want to learn more about its programs. The university also hosts similar events for graduate students. Prospective students can take a virtual tour online and submit an information request form. Incoming freshmen should score at least 1030/20 on the SAT/ACT and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5. They should also take four years of English courses, three years of math classes and electives and at least two years of courses in social studies and life/health sciences. Undergrads can use either the Common Application or the St. Francis application and submit both their test scores and transcripts.
St. Francis encourages students to meet with an admissions counselor before they apply, especially if they have any questions about the process. They will need to provide their official transcripts and a completed application. This application is available through the university’s website, though students can also submit a paper version. Some programs have requirements that students must meet after finishing their applications. Those requirements can include an in-person interview on the university’s campus, an essay that explains why they want to attend St. Francis, proof that the student has a job or a letter of recommendation. Some programs may have multiple requirements.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Undergraduates attending St. Francis pay $32,000 a year or $16,000 per semester in any of the university’s traditional degree programs. Those students also pay fees of $320 a year and room and board costs of $9,100 a year or more. Part-time students enrolled in a degree or certificate program pay $825 per credit hour. The adult completion programs charge a rate of $599 per credit hour. St. Francis also charges different rates for its graduate and certificate programs. Graduate students pay between $599 and $798 per credit hour, and certificate students pay between $399 and $544 per credit hour.
Most of the financial aid awarded by the university every year goes to undergrads. When they file the FAFSA and use the St. Francis school code, they can get grants and loans and join the university’s work-study program. Graduate and adult completion students should use the FAFSA too because it will help them get some of the same financial aid. Students who work for different companies and organizations in Illinois may qualify for assistance too. More than 50 scholarships go to worthy students every year as well. These scholarships include full tuition packages and smaller awards that students can stack on top of any other aid they get.
