Students who attend the University of Central Florida may enroll in traditional, on-campus classes held at the university’s Orlando campus, as well as online through the school’s UCF Online portal. Overall, the university offers three specialist degree programs, three professional doctorates, and 29 research doctorates. Students may also enroll in any of the 101 bachelor’s degree programs or 88 master’s degree programs. Located in Orlando, Florida, the University of Central Florida is a large school with more than 66,000 students attending its campus. The school was founded in 1963 by the state’s legislature as an institution meant to educate the personnel installed at the Kennedy Space Center, as well as Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. Once known as Florida Technological University, the school would undergo a name change to the University of Central Florida. The school’s current population makes it the largest college or university in the entire country. The university’s official colors are black and gold, and the sports teams play as the Knights in NCAA Division I games. The suburban campus covers more than 1,400 acres, and additional property brings the total acreage of the university’s facilities to nearly 1,900 acres.
University of Central Florida Accreditation Details
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) has accredited the University of Central Florida to award college degrees at the associate, baccalaureate, and master’s levels, as well doctoral and specialist degrees. The SACSCOC is one of seven associations operating throughout the country that accredited colleges and universities. The university’s programs are also accredited by various agencies, and the university also counts membership in various societies and organizations. The university is affiliated with the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, the Florida Department of Education, and a variety of groups granting programmatic accreditation. Some of those organizations include the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), and the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration.
University of Central Florida Application Requirements
Prospective students who want to apply to the University of Central Florida must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale for most programs, have their official transcripts sent to the university, and provide evidence of having taken the SAT or ACT. Students who want to major in Education or who have less than 60 college credits earned must take one of the nation’s standardized tests. The school also recommends that students submit a personal essay, but it’s not a firm requirement for acceptance to the school. The application fee is $30, and students are directed to apply through the school’s online application form. Students who apply having earned more than 60 credits in college must provide evidence of having taken two courses in English composition, two math courses, and a foreign language. Enrollment in graduate classes requires that students have already earned a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution.
Tuition and Financial Aid
In-state tuition for undergraduates at the University of Central Florida is $6,247, and out-of-state tuition is $22,345. The school expects that students will pay $1,146 for books and supplies, as well as have additional costs related to transportation and miscellaneous spending. Graduate students from Florida will pay an in-state rate of $288.16 per credit, and out-of-state students will pay an additional non-resident fee per credit of $785.15. Other fees a student will pay include a capital improvement fee, a financial aid fee, and an activity & service fee. In all, the university expects in-state students will pay a total of $369.65 in tuition and fees for each graduate credit, and out-of-state students will pay $1,194.05 in tuition and fees.
Approximately 44 percent of students attending the University of Central Florida receive federal student loans, and the average amount received by a student in federal loans is $7,289. More than 70 percent of students receive scholarships and grants, and the average size of a scholarship or grant is $4,381. The university recommends that students submit their FAFSA form as early as possible to qualify for student aid. Based on a student’s income and status, a student may receive a combination of grants, scholarships, and loans to cover the cost of attendance. Grants a student may qualify for when enrolling in the programs offered by the University of Central Florida include Pell Grants, Florida Student Assistance Grants, and First Generation Matching Grant Program awards.
