Students at Southern New Hampshire University can attend classes on campus in New Hampshire, but the majority of students enrolled for classes do so through online study. The university has more than 200 available programs available as online college degrees, and students work with a dedicated advisor who helps students enroll in the right classes. About Southern New Hampshire University

Southern New Hampshire University was founded in 1932 as the New Hampshire School of Accounting and Secretarial Science. The school was once a for-profit school but eventually became a non-profit institution and a degree-granting school in the 1960s. Today, the university has a significant online presence with most of its students attending classes online. Students who attend classes on campus do so at a 300-acre campus located just north of Manchester on the Merrimack River. The school’s official colors are gold and blue, and the school’s teams are nicknamed the Penmen with a mascot named Petey Penmen. The school participates in NCAA Division II games, has six Greek sororities and fraternities, and 11 honors societies in which students can participate.

Southern New Hampshire University Accreditation Details

Regional accreditation for Southern New Hampshire University is granted by the New England Commission of Higher Education. The university receives its degree-granting approval from the New Hampshire Department of Education, Division of Higher Education – Higher Education Commission. The university also has several programmatic accreditations like the hospitality programs, which are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration and the programs in business and related areas, most of which are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). The bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management is currently in candidacy status with the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education.

Southern New Hampshire University Application Requirements

When applying to Southern New Hampshire University, students will apply for online admission, campus admission, or campus graduate admission, or apply as transfer students or international students. When applying as an online student, applicants will submit the full application, complete a transcript release form from all schools attended, and fill out the Electronic Attestation Form, where the student confirms that he or she has received a GED or graduated from high school. Graduate students face similar requirements with submission of the full application, a transcript release form, and a Graduate Attestation Form in which students confirm they’ve been awarded a bachelor’s degree and provide their undergraduate GPA. Undergraduate students don’t have a minimum GPA requirement, but graduate students must have a minimum GPA from their bachelor’s degree program of 2.75.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Tuition for students at Southern New Hampshire University is $960 per course or $320 per credit hour for degrees and certificate programs. Students who are U.S. service members, as well as the spouses of service members on active duty, pay $675 per class or $225 per credit. Students participating in the Advantage Program pay $885 per class or $295 per credit hour. Graduate students will pay $1,881 per course or $627 per credit hour when they enroll, and U.S. service members and spouses of active-duty service members pay $1,410 per course or $470 per credit hour. Students will eventually pay a $150 graduation fee and may also need to pay for some course materials fees for certain classes.

Undergraduate students can transfer up to 90 previously earned credits to their program at Southern New Hampshire University, which can significantly reduce the overall cost of receiving a degree. Most undergraduate degrees require that students complete 120 credit hours and the majority of associate-level degrees require that students complete 60 credit hours. Students who want to qualify for financial aid to attend the university must submit their FASFA form each year to maintain eligibility. Students may gain eligibility for loans, grants, and scholarships from a variety of sources. New Hampshire residents who attend Southern New Hampshire University may qualify for the New Hampshire Governor’s Scholarship, the Quill Scholarship, or the Presidential Scholarship.
