Georgia College and State University is located in Milledgeville, Georgia, and has been in operation since 1889, when it was known as Georgia Normal and Industrial College. The university is part of the University System of Georgia. Its official colors are blue and green, and the mascot is the Bobcat. There are 11 sports teams playing in NCAA Division II games within the Peach Belt Conference.
The university’s initial focus was on vocational training, and the first students were young women headed for industrial or teaching careers. The university would change into a four-year institution in 1917 and would remain a women’s college until 1967. Noted writer Mary “Flannery” O’Conner would attend the college in the 1940s. The university would become a liberal arts institution in 1996 when the name was officially changed to Georgia College and State University.

Georgia College and State University Application Requirements
First-year students who want to attend Georgia College and State University must apply by October 15 for early action or April 1 for regular admission. The university uses a holistic admissions process to determine whether a student should be admitted to the program of his or her choice. Students will submit the undergraduate application, application fee, transcripts, two essays, and standardized test scores.
The university also has some recommended items that aren’t mandatory but can help the admissions team with the decision to admit an applicant. Recommended items include a letter of recommendation from a counselor or teacher and a resume of extracurricular activities or a digital resume. Students can submit up to six recommendations. Applicants can also apply for a fee waiver if they can’t afford to pay the application fee.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Georgia College and State University charges a flat rate for undergraduate study that is based on how many credits a student takes. In-state students will pay $2,222.00 for one to six credits or $3,754.00 for 7 or more credits. Out-of-state students will pay $7,918.00 for one to six credits or $13,344.00 for seven or more credits. Enrollees will also pay some extra fees like a health fee, athletic fee, tech fee, and institution fee.
For graduate students, the rate is based on the number of credits. The first credit for in-state students is $294.00, and the rate increases to $3,525.00 for 12 or more credits. For out-of-state students, the rate is $1,047.00, and the rate increases to $12,562.00 for 12 or more credits. Graduate students will also pay a variety of extra fees like those for transportation and parking, the wellness center, and tech fees.
Students can qualify for several types of financial aid when they attend Georgia College and State University. To receive loans through the federal government’s loan program, students must complete loan entrance counseling, as well as sign a master promissory note.
