About Bellevue University

Bellevue University is a private university named after the city of Bellevue in Nebraska, which is where the university started. Founded as Bellevue College in 1966, it became one of the five largest schools in the state within its first decade. Started as a college for adult learners, it offered programs that gave students an easy way to earn their degrees and to go back to school. It nearly closed in the 1980s as other colleges added similar programs, but it managed to make it through that era with an increase in its overall enrollment. More than 10,000 students now attend Bellevue University every year.

The university now ranks as a top school for military students and adult learners. Not only does it offer tuition discounts for those on active duty, but it also offers prior learning credits. Any student who thinks that he or she learned skills that will help them in college can apply for these credits. The university will give them a test and award them credits based on how well they do on that test. Bellevue also offers a discount for spouses of active duty men and women too.
