The University offers hundreds of degree programs that are built on a foundation of highly accessible, award-winning education. The Business Management undergraduate degree is one of the most popular at the university while the undergraduate in Criminal Justice online degree was named seventh in the nation by Criminal Justice Degree Hub<\/a>. The Master in Counseling online program is ranked second in the country by Top Counseling Schools<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Bachelor of Business Administration and Management at Fort Hays State University provides students with an understanding of the multi-faced world of business and management. The program creates graduates who are leaders, who help their company run at peak efficiency with the goal of making sure employees have their needs met as well. Business courses required for the program include:<\/p>\n Some of the management electives students may use to customize their degree include Lean Systems, Supply Chain Management, Total Quality Management, Global Human Resources, and Entrepreneurship.<\/p>\n The Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice is available both online and on campus. The program focuses on the main theories in criminal justice and allows students to customize their study with a wide range of electives. Students may concentrate their studies in Law Enforcement, Corrections or Law and the Courts. Courses required for the program include:<\/p>\n An internship is also required.<\/p>\n The Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling provides students with the knowledge necessary to aid those who are dealing with mental health issues. The program is available in a hybrid version with 50 percent of courses offered online while the remaining courses are scheduled for Friday and Saturday. The program prepares students for licensure in Kansas as a Licensed Professional Counselor or a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. Students are able to identify philosophy, trends, ethics, and standards of the profession as well as social and cultural characteristics across diverse groups. Courses required may include:<\/p>\n A practicum and internship are both required to complete the program.<\/p>\n Although the Kansas Legislature initially planned the Fort Hays Experimental Station in 1889, the normal and agricultural school, which was designed to educate residents of a reservation in the area, the school did not open until 1899. On the abandoned Fort Hays Army Post, the state also established the Kansas Normal School to educate teachers as well as the experimental station.<\/p>\n Although the plan was to make use of the old army fort and the first classes were held there, the community wanted to relocate the school closer to town and donated more than 4,000 acres for the campus. When the campus was constructed, it completely absorbed the town of Hays.<\/p>\n In 1914, the school name changed to Fort Hayes Kansas State Normal School and, in 1923, became Kansas State Teachers College. In honor of its original location, the name was changed again in 1931 to Fort Hays State College. When the school gained university status in 1977, the final name became Fort Hays State University.<\/p>\n Today, approximately 15,000 students are enrolled at Fort Hays State University.<\/p>\n Fort Hays State University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Accreditation indicates that the school meets or exceeds criteria that the Commission has determined indicates excellence in education. The school undergoes periodic review to confirm they continue to have the resources to meet their goals and objectives as well as to be sure the programs offered continue to meet the Commission\u2019s criteria. In addition, programs throughout the University are accredited by the following organizations:<\/p>\n In order to apply for undergraduate programs, applicants must have a minimum high school GPA of 2.0 and have a composite score of 21 or above on the SAT or an SAT of 980 or 1080 They must complete an application and provide official high school transcripts along with official ACT or SAT scores. Transfer students under the age of 21 or who have fewer than 24 credits must also meet these requirements. Transfer students with more than 24 transferrable credits must have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA.<\/p>\n Graduate students must hold a bachelor\u2019s degree or and provide official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended. In order to be admitted to the Master of Science in Counseling program, applicants must have a 3.0 in their last 60 hours of undergraduate study. They must provide two letters of recommendation, official GRE or MAT scores, a personal statement of goals as well as professional experience and a valid background check completed in the last four years.<\/p>\n Tuition for undergraduate programs at Fort Hays State University is $171.09 per credit hour for Kansas residents, $237.72 for residents of Colorado, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma, and $506.72 for non-residents. Students who live in Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Michigan, North Dakota, Ohio or Wisconsin may be eligible for tuition reduction.<\/p>\n Graduate tuition is $241.71 per credit hour for on-campus students who are Kansas residents. Residents of Colorado, Missouri, Nebraska, and Oklahoma pay $341.29 per credit hour for on-campus courses and non-residents pay $609.77 per credit hour. Online tuition is $287.75.<\/p>\n Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to qualify for assistance and the school provides more than $59 million each year to help students afford their education. Financial aid may be awarded in the form of loans, assistantships or fellowships for graduate students.<\/p>\n Fort Hays State University is the Midwest\u2019s leading state institution.
