Courses required may include:<\/p>\n A practicum and internship are both required to complete the program.<\/p>\n Although the Kansas Legislature initially planned the Fort Hays Experimental Station in 1889, the normal and agricultural school, which was designed to educate residents of a reservation in the area, the school did not open until 1899. On the abandoned Fort Hays Army Post, the state also established the Kansas Normal School to educate teachers as well as the experimental station.<\/p>\n Although the plan was to make use of the old army fort and the first classes were held there, the community wanted to relocate the school closer to town and donated more than 4,000 acres for the campus. In order to be admitted to the Master of Science in Counseling program, applicants must have a 3.0 in their last 60 hours of undergraduate study. They must provide two letters of recommendation, official GRE or MAT scores, a personal statement of goals as well as professional experience and a valid background check completed in the last four years.<\/p>\n Tuition for undergraduate programs at Fort Hays State University is $171.09 per credit hour for Kansas residents, $237.72 for residents of Colorado, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma, and $506.72 for non-residents.
